Welcome.
Mission
My goal is to help you make better decisions and live better lives. Making better (wiser) decisions will help you save time and money, gain confidence, and gain more control over your life.
You will:
-Start doing things you want to do.
-Stop doing things you don’t want to do.
-Deal with doing things you need to do.
We make life too complicated. We all face one obstacle after another. How do we confront those obstacles? We consistently make wise decisions to overcome those barriers to grow and improve our lives.
The topics discussed in my newsletters include:
Anger
Loneliness
Relationships

About Me (What gives me the right to share this information with you?!?)
Simple answer
I’ve made more mistakes than many human beings. There are some life lessons that I thought I had learned, but I keep having to relearn. Learning from the school of hard knocks is not pleasant the first time. Imagine going through that learning process three or four times (or more). I’m still really messed up!
The longer answer
I am an only child born into a middle-class Christian family. I was lonely until we moved into a neighborhood with other kids when I was five.
The kid who lived across the street (and one year older) bullied me for his entertainment each afternoon.
Upper-level students in elementary and middle school bullied me. I was also the target of two separate sexual assaults. Despite these things, I was still a “glass half full” person.
I made decent grades, and in high school, I excelled in music and stupidity. I was goofy and lived in the shadow of my two more popular best friends.
After graduating high school, I enrolled in a small denominational school in Nashville, Tennessee. Leaving home at 18 was one of the best (and scariest) things I had ever done. I continued to be involved in music.
The college recruitment office hired me, which helped pay for my tuition. I traveled throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico, meeting people from all walks of life.
After college, while working for a national non-profit agency, I married my college sweetheart. The national agency also allowed me to work with people from all over the world.
Over the next 18 years, I worked for two more non-profit organizations. My job was to work with families and individuals, doing all I could to help them live their best lives.
In 2006, my supervisor and manager strongly encouraged me to resign from what I thought was my dream job. I was devastated and depressed, wallowing in self-pity. It took several years for me to work through those feelings. I allowed my job and title within this organization to dictate my identity and self-worth.
I began a second career (2008) in IT (information technology) end-user support. I couldn’t always help people with their devices, but I always wanted to encourage them while I was trying.
In 2016, I finally found a people-person job in IT. As a scared graduate, I never dreamed I’d be working in IT for a leading university in the U.S.
Right before the pandemic started, I began writing. It was therapeutic and gave me an outlet while the world was sheltering in place.
I now want to take everything that has ever happened to me and all of my experiences (positive and negative) to encourage people to make better decisions and live their best lives.
The better decisions you make, the happier you will be.
My simple promise to you
In my Disgustingly Simple newsletter, I promise to do these things:
I will be 100% transparent with you.
I will share with you my biggest failures and most significant successes.
I will share stories that will embarrass me.
I will write to inspire you and not judge or condemn you.
I will keep my vulgarity to a minimum but will always ©en$or it.
I will not try to make you think like I do. I want to make you think.
While I have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, I will not judge you, period. I care about you regardless of your background and whether it is religious or not.
I believe in absolute truth.
“For something to be absolute truth, it must be true at all times, for all people, and in all places.” Josh McDowell
I will also strive to entertain you while encouraging you to make better decisions. Depending on when you read them, I hope my stories brighten your day or night. Feel free to laugh along with me or even at me. I’m okay with that.
